Evaluation Question 6

In order to make our film opening of the best quality we had to go through the three stages of production:

  • Planning and research
  • Construction
  • Evaluation
This post will address what technologies have been used to create my final product and what I have learned about them.

The technology I have used are the of the following:
  • Powtoon
  • Photoshop
  • Slideshare
  • Movie studio platinum
  • Youtube
  • Blogger
  • Prezi
The technology I used during my planning and construction were IDMB and Numbers.com to find out statistics and other film information on our genre which was action to show that our film had a mainstream audience. We found a percentage of how many people enjoyed watching our particular genre. These statistics helped us find our target audiences which was males aged 35+. I also used the BBFC to establish an age rating for our film although there was some debate within our group. We also looked at different Youtube videos to look at other film openings and to see if we could achieve something similar. This allowed us to create a profile on the genre. We conveyed this information on Prezi, Powtoon, Blogger, Pitches and Powerpoint presentations so that we were organised and made our work look incredibly smart. I found Powtoon extremely annoying at first but then I got used to it.

During the evaluation process I used various different programs to evaluate my film opening. I used Prezi, Powtoon, Blogger and Movie Studio Platinum for each of the evaluation questions. Prezi was extremely time consuming and annoying. From adding these evaluation questions my blog looks amazing . Jade and Connor did most of the editing and I only had a small input to how the film was put together.

In conclusion I used a variety of technologies in my research and planning and evaluation. I have learnt how to use different technology in AS than ever before. The only technology I found annoying was Powtoon. By using these different technologies I have learnt how to use them properly and I hope do the same again in A2

Evaluation Question 2

How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups Such As?

·         Age

·         Gender

·         Sexuality

·         Physical ability

·         Ethnicity

·         Social Class

Rosaline is the heroine in our film opening and she is portrayed to be quite young. This would challenge the stereotype of how young an MI6 female agent should be. Rosaline is only 17 and starting the final year of A Levels. Usually MI6 recruit university students when they graduate however Rosaline is an exception. This gives a positive representation as Rosaline portrays youth to be a good thing. Rosaline is wearing white which connotes innocence and this colour can be associated with children. Rosaline does not say anything to her interrogator due to the fact that she has sworn not to tell anyone about what their mission is. Rosaline appears to be stubborn and the audience would indeed question her ability to talk to her interrogator in clever and witty manner without revealing information. Rosaline is an upper middle class female and we can tell by her posture and the way she holds her head up. We also wanted to show this by shining a single spotlight on her to show not only that is she innocent but that she is the better character and has I higher status than he has. There is nothing in this film opening to show her physical ability or her sexuality. We can tell that  Rosaline is a white young female and represents the minority of women who go into the special forces and that women are capable of doing a "man’s job".
Li is our hero in our film opening. He is considerably older than her as he is 23 years of age and been in service for 4 years and has more experience in this line of work than Rosaline. This is neither a positive or negative representation. Li has had experience and will teach Rosaline how to do the job and what to expect. Li has prepared her for the worst. Li is an upper class male and we can tell this by looking at his demine. He appears to know what he is doing and is clearly unafraid of who is chasing him. Li’s physical ability is that of an athlete. We can tell he has been running for a long time and clearly has a lot of stamina. We have no idea of Li’s sexuality because there is no indication as yet as it is only the opening of the film. Li is a white middle aged male. We often think that white males are aggressive but Li is portrayed to be calm and collective whilst he is running.

Boris is the antagonist/ Villain in our film opening he is older than both Li and Rosaline as is he is around his thirties. He is a drug lord who is dealing with mass amount of Cannabis and heroine. He is wearing dark clothing which depicts him to be evil. He is a white male and represents an aggressive and misogynistic group of men. Boris is interrogating Rosaline and being physically and emotionally abusive. His walk, talk and behaviour shows his personality as a villain to make him seem a mysterious character.
In conclusion, our media product represents particular social groups so that our film opening is different and goes with and against stereotypes.  As the genre of our film opening is action/spy films there are different representations of characters that may differ depending on their social group.
